Managing the Twitter Brand & Launching the New Logo

In February of 2009 Jillian took a chance on a little startup who took a chance on her, and a few months on contract in a company of around 20 employees, she joined the Flock and grabbed her hardhat. What started out as reaching out to domain squatters to negotiate the release of Twitter related domains became a complex role that included all things related to the Twitter brand, including working with agencies clearing use of the Twitter name and logos in any advertising, working with outside counsel to secure trademarks around the world, and eventually, the launch of the new bird logo.

Working directly with Jack Dorsey on his vision, Jillian organized and managed a cross-departmental team to ensure a seamless and extremely quick rollout of the new brand for all internal and worldwide use. She then created systems and policies to replace existing use of old logos with the new branding. During this time, Jillian also worked directly with the CEOs of companies acquired by Twitter to help manage use or phasing out of acquired trademarks and branding, sometimes negotiating with external trademark holders to acquire marks (Vine).

Jillian was also the in-house event photographer for all visitors to the Twitter Headquarters, photographing guests such as Lady Gaga, Conan, Priankya Chopra, the then-Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gavin Newsom, Kanye West and Adam Savage.

Named Trademark Team of the Year in 2013 by World Trademark Review, Jillian’s almost five years at Twitter enriched her with the confidence to work with senior management in big tech, agencies, teams of engineers and creatives alike, in house and outside counsel, and the public.

Roles: project management, legal liaison, negotiations, branding, marketing, domain and trademarks.

In 2016 Jillian partnered with Social Studies, the hippest little shop in Berkeley, CA, to create wild bouquets for Valentines Day. From floral selection and curation to assembly (with a few snags along the way that required on-the-spot problem solving, as is the nature of placing orders for flowers that might not be available last minute!), Jillian worked with the Social Studies team to execute a beautiful alternative to the norm for our local community.
